Delta Technical College (DTC)’s Ridgeland campus is proud to present the WJMI Student Athlete of the Week again for the 2023-2024 season!

Each week from August 2023 through May 2024, Jackson metro-area high school students will be recognized for their overall athletic performance. The winners of Student Athlete of the Week will receive on-air recognition on WJMI and will be added to a drawing.

At the end of the season, a drawing will be held and the winner will receive a $500 cash prize to be donated to their high school on behalf of DTC!

Congratulations to the Student Athlete of the Week Winners!

  • Week 1: John White, Madison Ridgeland Quarterback who was 17-27 for 309 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 48-25 win over Park Lane.
  • Week 2: Billy Puckett, junior quarterback of Jackson Prep. He threw for 128 yards in a 42-7 win over Copiah Academy.
  • Week 3: Jeremiah Wilson, Lanier senior running back. He rushed for 275 yards and 6 touchdowns and converted four two – point conversions in a 52-32 win over Newton.
  • Week 4: Tyler Arrington, running back, Wingfield. He had 20 carries for 230 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Falcons 30-20 win over Yazoo City.
  • Week 5: Jack Durr, sophomore quarterback at Pearl. He accounted for four touchdowns in the Pirates 44-28 win over Germantown.
  • Week 6: Tyler Arrington of Wingfield. Over 600 yards and 5+ touchdowns in previous two weeks to lead Falcons football.
  • Week 7: Tyson Robinson, running back for Brandon. He had 167 total yards and 2 touchdowns in the Bulldogs 38-20 win over Oak Grove.
  • Week 8: Jay McQueen of Brandon. He caught 5 touchdown passes in a 42-20 win over Pearl.
  • Week 9: R.J. Hall, running back, Terry. He had 111 total yards and 2 touchdowns in the Bulldogs 55-0 win over Forest Hill.
  • Week 10: Reed Jesioloswski, Hartfield running back. Reed had 30 carries for 223 yards and a touchdown in the Hawks 21-00 win over Jackson Prep for the state championship for class 6 in the MAIS.
  • Week 11: Presley Thompson, East Rankin. He averaged 16.5 points and 4.3 steals per game in a 58-56 loss to Pillow Academy and a 49-29 win over Copiah Academy.
  • Week 12: Shamira Morton, Canton. Shamira scored 28 points, grabbed 23 rebounds, and blocked 6 shots in the Lady Tigers 62-43 win over Ridgeland and scored 30 points, grabbed 16 points, and blocked 3 shots in a 41-36 win over Germantown.
  • Week 13: Javien Cooper, Murrah High School. He scored 33 points in the Murrah Mustangs 67-64 overtime win over Callaway.
  • Week 14: Morris Hammond, Ridgeland High School. Scored 36 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had 3 steals in the Titans 89-44 win over Neshoba Central.
  • Week 15: Wiggy Ball, Hartfield Academy. Had 18 points and 7 assists in the Hawks 67-55 win over MRA.
  • Week 16: Sam Funches, Germantown. Had 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 blocks in the Mavericks 49-35 win over Madison Central.
  • Week 17: Shamira Morton, Canton. Had 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks in the Lady Tigers 41-31 win over Gentry and had 29 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 assists in a 52-48 loss to Holmes County.
