Massage therapy programs and jobs are on the rise. Massage therapy careers allow many possibilities. Analysis from the Bureau of Labor shows that the massage therapy industry will grow faster than average through the year since the year 1996. Consumer demand for massage from massage therapists continues to grow. Between 1997 and 2000 the number of American adults who reported getting a massage from a massage therapist in the previous year doubled from 8% to 16%. Massage therapists have growing opportunities in the workplace because of the fact that the workplace has been identified as a the single greatest source of stress. Seven in ten workers indicate that job stress is causing frequent health problems and has made them less productive. The Miami Touch Institute has done research on the healing powers of massage in the workplace. They say that just 15 minutes of massage a week showed decreased job anxiety and problems were solved in less time with few errors. Every year more companies are offering massage therapy. Places like hospitals, law firms, major companies use massage therapy to make their workers more productive and healthy. It is estimated that consumers visit massage therapists 114 million times per year, spending between $4 billions and $6 billion annually on these visits.
18% of the Adult U.S. population has had a massage in the past 12 months, which has more than doubled since 1997.
Massage Therapy is not considered a luxury any more; it is a way for the body to “tune up” and provides a physical boost to the weary, sore and stressed.
