Course Description for Major Appliance Repair

6 Weeks/ 240 total clock hours which includes 180 clock hours-lab/60 clock hours-lecture


The six-week Major Appliance Repair Program offers students hands-on training and experience in the installation and repair of a number of systems, including gas and electric ranges, microwaves, dishwasher, water heaters and garbage disposals, among others. The program’s objective is to provide students with the basic principles of operation and maintenance according to NEC and manufacturers’ specifications and to help graduates secure entry level employment in the major appliance industry.


The MTI MAR program consists of six weeks of training, with each week focusing on a different aspect of Major Appliance Repair. Upon course completion, the student will aquire EPA Section 608 and NASTeC certifications. This course is geared to serve an industry which is facing a great shortage of qualified technicians, and the short course time aims to get people out into the workforce quickly.

     Upon Program Completion:

  • Receives a Major Appliance Repair Diploma
  • EPA Section 608 Core Universal Certification, Type I & II
  • OSHA 10-Hour Safety Training
  • Students may take optional certification tests by

    HVAC Excellence, NATE, and NASTeC
